Girls soccer has extremely successful season

The 2017 girls soccer season was a fantastically successful season.

The team put in hard work in the offseason to achieve their goals during the actual season.

Junior Grace Voelz said, “We have been working on our shooting a lot more than previous years, we conditioned a lot this summer, and have also been working on our passing and just getting our touches down,”

Sophomore Olivia Lambdin said, “The work we put in is just practicing together. We do a lot of defensive work, work on crosses, and pick out the other team’s weaknesses so we can exploit them during the game,”

Because of this hard work and effort that was put in during the offseason, the team was looking forward to a great season.

A major plot twist came in the middle of the season when junior Victoria Crowder and sophomore Jordan Reid both suffered ACL injuries that ended both of their seasons.

Voelz said, “We all had to come together after Jordan Reid and Victoria Crowder got hurt and work as a team,”

Despite the injuries to some key players, the team was able to bounce back and attain a record of 13-3-1.

Many of the players credit the team’s success to the chemistry off of the soccer field.

Voelz said, “The team chemistry is really good. We all get along very well and hang out outside of soccer. We all have a really good bond.”

Lambdin said, “It’s very tight. We’re all not only teammates but also good friends and we hang out outside of soccer.”

This team chemistry allowed the Dragons to dominate in sectional play at Shelbyville. They defeated Connersville 6-0 in the sectional semi-final and Beech Grove 9-0 in the final to win the 12th sectional title in the program’s history.

The Dragons then advanced to regional play at their home field where they played Batesville in the regional semi-final. The Dragons suffered a 6-2 loss to the Bulldogs.

Even though the Dragons weren’t able to win their regional, the Dragons still made their hometown proud with their hard work and determination despite the roadblocks they faced this season.
