The New Palestine boys track and field team has already taken home hardware through the year, having won county and conference titles. In addition, the Dragons won three individual sectional titles in the very tough Warren Central sectional.
“This has been the best track team to ever go through New Pal,” senior Caleb Eagleson said.
As a team, the Dragon track stars claim the titles of county and conference champs. The Dragons compete in the regional Thursday at Warren Central.
“I would say that my favorite part of track would be all the time I got to spend with the coaches and my teammates. We really were one big family and it’s always fun roasting each other, especially Chandler. I wouldn’t want to win championships with anyone else,” Eagleson said.
Eagleson personally holds two sectional champion titles, a regional champion title, and a school record for the 4×800. He’s also a county champ in the 1600 and a sectional champ. Eagleson’s accomplishments don’t stop there, in the 3200 he claims the county championship title and the current school record. All of these accomplishments have happened in the last two years, Eagleson started running track his junior year.
“I’d say my favorite part about track is being apart of a great group of people, and I can say that we’ve all become friends through this experience,” senior Brady Walden said.
Walden, like Eagleson, also started running track his junior year and holds the 4×100 school, county and conference record. In the 100 he is a two time county champ and has a conference championship under his belt. He holds the record in the 200 as well. Walden also does long jump and is a two time county champ and two time conference champ.
“I would say that my favorite part about track is being ablate laugh ad enjoy being with my friends and coaches,” senior Chase Crowder said. “Sure, we have really hard days, but we all make an effort to also laugh. We also help each other and we are there for each other if something goes wrong.”
Crowder, who has been running track since seventh grade, claims a sectional championship title, national qualification, and school record for the 4×800 relay with Eagleson. He’s also a two time regional qualifier for the 1600. Crowder doesn’t stop there, he holds the county championship title for the 800 and is a regional qualifier.
“I’ll definitely miss all of them and I’ll miss the coaches, too, because of the way they’ve helped us all through these great seasons,” Walden said.
